The man fatally shot by a Louisville Metro Police officer on Monday was reaching for a gun, officials said, and body camera footage shows a University of Louisville Police officer next to him when the trigger was pulled.
Jessie Stringfield, 44, died Monday afternoon as a result of his injuries, said Jo-Ann Farmer, chief deputy coroner for Jefferson County.
In a teleconference with reporters Tuesday afternoon, graphic body camera footage from two officers was shown as Chief Steve Conrad said his department’s public integrity unit would continue to investigate the shooting, which occurred in the 200 block of East Gray Street near several hospitals and medical facilities.
Stringfield was shot by Officer Michael Johnson, a 12-year veteran of the department, just after noon Monday and was pronounced dead at 12:38 p.m. after being taken to nearby University of Louisville Hospital
