A man in his 60s was hospitalized Wednesday after a Hayward police officer shot him in his driveway. On Thursday, bodycam footage showing the incident was released
A police officer shot a man who said had approached them with a weapon, authorities said Wednesday, the second shooting involving the city’s police in a week.
Just before 12:45 p.m., officers responded to calls about a man on a motorcycle chasing someone and banging on neighborhood doors near Bahama and Sleepy Hollow avenues, police said.
When officers arrived, they found a male in his 60s who allegedly approached them with an unspecified weapon. An officer fired at least once; the man was taken to an area hospital. No information on his injuries or condition was immediately released, but Hayward police Officer Claudia Mau said he was expected to survive.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office will conduct an investigation parallel to an internal investigation within the department, police said.
“At this point, we are still investigating to determine what led to that outcome,” Hayward police said in a statement, mirroring the statement they made after the earlier shooting.
