“They say black lives matter. You killed your own this time. You killed a child. She didn’t do nothing to nobody,” Secoriya Williamson, the father of young, 8-year-old Secoriea said at a press conference on Sunday.
Local Atlanta affiliate WSB TV reports that "Officers said they responded to a shooting call near University Avenue and I-75/I-85 around 9:50 p.m. The location of the shooting was in a parking lot across the street from the now burned-out Wendy’s, which has been occupied by demonstrators since Brooks’ death."
Turner and her mother were riding in a car along with her mother's friend. They exited the interstate and tried to enter the occupied parking lot where they were confronted by "a group of individuals" who were blocking the entrance.
A statement by police read, "At some point, someone in that group opened fire on the vehicle, striking it multiple times and striking the child who was inside. The driver then drove to Atlanta Medical Center for help."
The eight-year-old girl died in the hospital.
