Shooting starts around 4:50 mark
OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City police released a dramatic new video on Tuesday of an August 2 shootout in Bricktown. Police urged the public to come forward if they recognize anyone involved in the shooting.
Not only was the incident an officer-involved shooting investigation but one person was shot during the gunfight.
The surveillance video was from the outside of the Bricktown Comedy Club on Kings of Leon Lane. Just after 1 a.m. a dark-colored SUV pulled up in front of the club. Several passengers opened their doors. One of them got out and fired several times down the street. The gunshots sent bystanders for cover behind cars.
“Officers were on patrol in the area and heard the gunshots and responded to the scene,” said Capt. Larry Withrow with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Just before the SUV sped away, police said Officer Christopher Weaver showed up. Weaver fired at the suspect's SUV. The back window shattered just before the driver took off.
‘The suspect vehicle fled from the officer,” said Withrow. ‘The officer gave chase and a short time later lost that vehicle.”
In the video, gunfire can be seen coming from several directions. Police said a number of cars were hit by bullets. Investigators also learned a person showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot injury. Police do not believe the person was shot by the officer.
“We know there were at least two people involved who were shooting and at least two vehicles involved in the original shooting,” said Withrow.
Officer Weaver was put on paid administrative leave. Investigators said the public can leave tips by calling Crime Stoppers at 405-235-7300.
