Protesters gathered inside the First Unitarian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday night, September 26, into September 27, as a citywide curfew commenced at 9 pm, local reports said.
Footage from Brendan Gutenschwager shows a large group of demonstrators gathering inside the church, as well as the scenes outside and inside the church on Saturday night into September 27.
Police said a small group of protesters caused damage to property, including setting a car on fire in a Spalding University parking lot with fireworks, setting off small explosions. The windows at Spalding University and Presentation Academy were smashed and graffiti was sprayed across several buildings, police said.
Police also said plywood shields were set on fire in the street in front of the First Unitarian Church. Police said they asked those inside the church to remain there while police conducted an investigation and secured the area. Police said they arrested at least 28 people on Saturday night.
