A machete-wielding man was subdued and arrested this week after chasing a resident in an alley.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department, 53-year-old Andre Joaquin Castille, possibly from West Los Angeles, was arrested on Sept. 13 after a resident saw Castille attempting to break into the back yard of a home on the 1400 block of 26th Street.
The resident reported Castille was armed with a machete and during the 911 call, Castille chased the resident through the alley.
Officers responded and found Castille with the blade and a pipe. Castille tried to avoid officers and enter a nearby residential street. As officers tried to stop him, Castille swung the pipe at them and officers deployed a Taser. Despite being hit with the Taser, Castille was able to get back to his feet and reengage the officers.
Officers tackled Castille to the ground and were able to subdue him.
Castille was initially held on $50,000 bail but his bail was revoked after the District Attorney’s office filed filed two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one of resisting arrest with violence against him on Wednesday.
