The lawyer of former Minneapolis officer Thomas Lane, involved and indicted in the case of George Floyd’s death, introduced a video showing the cop helping a homeless man in a motorized wheelchair. The lawyer intends to use the video as character evidence.
Lane’s lawyer, Earl Gray filed a notice of intent in court on Wednesday to offer character evidence. Gray says that the video will describe Lane’s as peaceful.
The Lane’s bodycam video released to the public shows the officer pushing the wheelchair of a homeless man after its battery went off.
The incident took place on January 23. Lane pushed the wheelchair through the wintry condition to the police precinct in order to recharge the man’s wheelchair and let him warm up.
"This specific instance of conduct of Lane’s character will be strong circumstantial evidence that Lane did not with criminal intent assist in the murder of George Floyd," Gray wrote.
According to the court file, during the tragic arrest of George Floyd, Lane, charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter, was the only one who asked if Floyd should be rolled onto his side.
