PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — A manhunt is underway for the man accused of shooting a police officer in McKeesport on December 20.
Police are using drones, search dogs, and armed officers from all across the Pittsburgh region in hopes of locating 22-year-old Koby Lee Francis of McKeesport.
Multiple streets have been shut down and checkpoints have been put in place all across the area.
Francis is described as a 6’2″ Black male with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, army fatigue pants, and black shoes with white soles.
According to county police, the shooting happened at around 4:00pm after Francis was arrested for violating a protection from abuse order he had been issued earlier in the day.
Police were alerted to Francis being outside of a home on Yester Square inside a vehicle, which was in direct violation of the PFA.
He was taken into custody and a firearm had been taken from his vehicle.
Francis became combative during the arrest and kicked a window out of a police car during transport.
When an officer attempted to remove Francis from the car, he pulled out a gun and shot the officer three times in the neck and torso. Francis then fled from the scene.
The officer is a 32-year-old man and a four-year veteran of the force.
He is currently in stable condition at an area hospital.
Francis is facing charges of criminal attempted homicide, escape, flight to avoid apprehension, aggravated assault, and violation of the Uniform Firearms Act.
