Barrie, Ontario- The Barrie Police Service has released a statement, after a video of an arrest downtown starting circulating on social media.
In the video, a young man is seen on the ground with an officer on top of him, screaming for help and asking for people to call 9-1-1.
Witnesses say the 20 year old man had been skateboarding on Dunlop Street this afternoon, before being tackled to the ground.
No word on what led up to the incident or what charges the man was facing.
As the video continues, the officer asks the man to stop resisting arrest, while the skateboarder insists he is not and one point he is struck in the head, before two other officers step in; all of them unmasked.
You can hear the woman taking the video asking officers to not use force and trying to calm the man down, but she was also threatened to be taken into custody.
In the statement, Barrie Police say it is “aware of a video that has been posted on social media and is currently looking into the circumstances that resulted in the arrest this afternoon on Dunlop Street in downtown Barrie.”
It added, “We will provide further comment once the details are confirmed.”
