OXFORD TOWNSHIP, MI – A home inspector is facing charges for allegedly pleasuring himself with a child’s Elmo doll while he conducting a home inspection, authorities said.
The alleged incident was caught on a nursery “nanny cam,” according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
“Just when I think I have seen it all, someone steps up and surprises me with a new level of disturbing actions,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement.
Kevin Wayne VanLuven, 59, is charged with aggravated indecent exposure, punishable by up to two years in prison and a $2,000 fine; and malicious destruction of property under $200, punishable by up to a 93-day jail sentence and $500 fine. Both charges are misdemeanors.
VanLuven was arrested by the sheriff’s office’s Fugitive Apprehension Team on Wednesday, April 7, on the charges related to a March 12 incident during home inspection in Oxford Township, police said. VanLuven was inspecting the home for perspective buyers. The homeowners let VanLuven and the buyer’s real estate agent into their home and then left.
After leaving, one of the homeowners received an alert on their phone due to movement in the nursery, police said. She checked the video feed and saw VanLuven. As she watched, he allegedly began to touch himself inappropriately. At that point, she began to record the incident. VanLuven then allegedly picked up an Elmo doll from the nursery floor and appeared to pleasure himself with it. Afterward, he returned the doll to its original location.
The homeowners called police and sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence. VanLuven told deputies that he had only moved the doll to inspect an outlet. When told he was caught on camera, he allegedly made incriminating statements and apologized.
