At least 44 people were killed and more than 100 injured, including many in critical condition, after midnight Thursday during celebrations for Lag B'Omer at Mount Meron.
The Prime Minister of Israel called the stampede a “terrible disaster.”
The Magen David Adom rescue service said 38 people had been killed at the scene. It said its paramedics treated dozens of people, including 18 in a serious condition, 2 who were moderately hurt and 80 lightly injured. All the wounded are now being evacuated to hospitals for treatment where they will be receiving both medical care and emotional support from family members after going through this traumatic experience.
