EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An Evansville woman accused of dragging a police officer Monday was in court Tuesday afternoon.
Bond was set at $1,500 for 18-year old Maeling Smith, but she has since bonded out of the Vanderburgh County Jail.
The officer is in the hospital after he was dragged by a car.
It happened in the area of Heidelbach and Diamond around 11:30 a.m. Monday.
Evansville Police say Officer Nathan Jones was flagged down by a man needing help.
He said he had been in a domestic dispute and wanted to get out of the area.
While Officer Jones and the man were talking, police say Smith drove up and started yelling.
Police say after she was told to stay in her car several times, she refused and continued to yell.
As Officer Jones tried to put Smith into custody, police say she got back into her car and accelerated in reverse.
The officer was dragged for about a block. Once he broke free, police say the car ran over his arm.
Officer Jones was taken to the hospital.
