A New York woman who traveled to Afghanistan last month to visit family is struggling to get herself and her child out of Kabul as the Taliban asserts control of the nation’s capital.
“I, myself, am stuck here. I’m a U.S. citizen, can’t even get out, have my kids here,” said Schenectady resident Faziya Nematy.
Nematy told WRGB she had been traveling back and forth to the airport in Kabul, watching as the Taliban set up checkpoints and the U.S. presence in the city vanished. She recorded videos of chaos as a taxi carried her and her child across the city.
“There’s no help here, there’s not one single American troop here. It's all a lie” she said.
