A 12-year-old boy from New Mexico was arrested after allegedly stealing an SUV and leading police on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed head-on into a car carrying other kids.
Doña Ana County deputies got multiple calls of a reckless driver in a blue-grey SUV that was chasing people off the road around noon on Sunday.
Part of the pursuit happened in Las Cruces, about 46 miles north of El Paso, Texas.
At some point, the underage driver picked up three other kids in a parking lot, but he wouldn't stop for officers who flashed their lights at him to initiate a traffic stop.
The intrepid child then hopped on the highway, leading officers through a maze of exit ramps, side streets and parking lots.
A woman who filmed the incident after the SUV swerved into her lane on Highway 70 said she was caught 'completely off-guard' when she noticed the driver.
'He could barely see over the steering wheel,' said TJ Burks. 'I can't believe he is doing stuff like this so young!'
His three friends, boys between the ages of 12 and 17, jumped out of the moving vehicle near a parking lot, where police found a 9mm handgun.
