The Russian woman dived headlong into an unequipped ice-hole and never appeared on the surface of the water.
In the Gatchina district of the Leningrad region, a 39-year-old woman drowned in an ice hole during Epiphany bathing. A terrible incident has hit video ( The video is not recommended for children and the faint of heart. ).
The tragedy occurred on the Oredezh River. The woman plunged into the hole and did not rise. The incident was reported to the emergency services shortly after midnight on January 19 from the village of Vyra. The divers who arrived at the site in the morning dived into Oredezh three times, but the body could not be found (video below).
It is known that a woman dived headlong into an unequipped ice hole in the river after taking a steam bath. The mother’s death was watched by her children, who at that moment were nearby, the press service of the All-Russian Society for Rescue on the Waters of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reports. According to divers, the body could have been carried away from the hole by a strong undercurrent.
According to the Megapolis publication, the deceased lived in St. Petersburg and worked as a lawyer in a construction company. Her 50-year-old husband called police to the scene.
Questions are raised by the font where the accident occurred. In all regions of the country, regional authorities, together with rescuers, determine places for swimming, ice holes are checked for safety, and doctors and rescuers are on duty near each such font. It is reported that the font on the Oredezh River, where the woman drowned, was not on the official list.
