An Indiana man was hailed a hero after he ran into a home engulfed in flames and saved five children.
Pizza delivery driver Nicholas Bostic, 25, of Lafayette, Ind., was driving when he saw the house on fire. He didn’t have a phone to call 911 but knew he needed to act fast, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
Bostic raced into the home through a back door and first tried to alert anyone in the home of the fire before he took a chance and went inside.
“He walked through the house, calling out the danger, and eventually made his way upstairs” where he “found four kids, ranging in age from 1 to 18,” police said in a statement.
Bostic then helped them escape but soon learned a six-year-old was still trapped inside.
“Without hesitation, he ran back into the burning house,” the statement detailed, adding that after searching various rooms and unable to find the child, he eventually heard a child’s cry.
After wrapping his shirt around his mouth, he dove back into the black smoke, found the little girl, and was able to run upstairs with her and get them both out to safety.
In bodycam footage of the July 11 incident shared by LPD, Bostic can be seen carrying the child from around the side of the burning house and handing them over to first responders before he himself was tended to by medics.
