Muskoka, Canada-A video captured a building being destroyed by a person operating an excavator at the Pride of Rosseau Marina, in the Muskoka Lakes, a summer getaway for many of Ontario’s wealthy, known for its luxury cottages and expensive boats.
The footage was shared online and the comments indicate that the damage was done by an “angry employee.” It shows an excavator clawing through the second floor of a Pride Marine Group building, tearing through its walls.
The Pride of Rosseau property offers boat storage and winterization, boat service and repairs. The marina is centered between three of Muskoka’s big lakes — Rosseau, Muskoka and Joseph — which have properties currently listed for more than $14 million.
Geordie Newlands, the owner of SWS Muskoka, which also operates marinas in the area, called the incident shocking. He said more than one building had been damaged and estimated that it was possible the cost for repair was “in the millions.”
“Luckily nobody got hurt, which is a good thing,” he said. “It was almost surreal what happened. For something like that to happen… it’s like fiction.”
While he didn’t want to speculate on the details, he said the pandemic has caused some strain within the boating industry and added more pressure in general to the local economy and labor force.
