BEAUMONT — A West Brook High School student is under arrest and in the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Justice Center, pending the outcome of an investigation into an attack against another student last week inside a bathroom, according to information the Jefferson County DIstrict Attorney's Office has provided to KFDM/Fox 4 News. The D.A.'s Office says BISD Police are finishing their investigation and once they turn it over to the D.A.'s Office, a determination will be made about what charges to file.
BISD Police arrested the teen last week. The Juvenile Probation Department tells KFDM News that by state law, a hearing must be held every ten days to determine whether the teenager can remain detained.
Videos on social media show one student hitting and punching another student several times in the face and head last week, even when he's on the bathroom floor, and then kicking him. The student on the floor tries to cover up and protect himself but the other student continues hitting him in the face and head.
The videos show several other students in the bathroom watching. There doesn't appear to be anyone trying to intervene, not those watching nor the person taking the cell phone video.
BISD says it's aware of the videos of the violent incident. The district calls the behavior unacceptable and says the acts of violence won't be tolerated. According to the statement, Beaumont ISD Police and administrators investigated the content of the videos and identified all students taking part. The district says it's taken disciplinary actions to the fullest extent and will continue working to ensure this type of behavior doesn't occur on any campus.
