A violent and shocking incident has led to the jailing of seven men for an array of offences. The incident took place in Morriston Cemetery, Swansea, on 5 August last year, and involved rival families attacking one another with an array of weapons including machetes, axes, and hammers.
The brawl, described as "absolutely appalling," broke out following a high-speed van chase, with dash cam footage recording the chaotic scenes that followed. The footage showed one man chasing another in his van, which drove past gravestones at a dangerous speed. He then got out and ran after the other man with a pickaxe handle, joined shortly by two others who jumped out of the vehicle wielding a hammer and a brick. Other individuals were seen holding machetes and planks of timber.
This terrifying incident took place next to a graveside blessing, adding to the distress of mourners in attendance. The van narrowly missed someone in a wheelchair, adding to the severity of the situation. Two of the men involved were seriously injured, including a teenager who required hospital treatment after being stabbed.
It has been reported that the men involved belonged to two sides of an extended family. The violent disorder was taken very seriously by the authorities, resulting in the imprisonment of James Coffey, 45, from Rumney, northeast Cardiff, for two years and three months for violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon, and dangerous driving.
