Tragedy struck the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bensonhurst on Monday, as a T-bone crash involving two vehicles resulted in the death of two individuals and left five others injured.
According to the New York Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. when a 49-year-old male driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle while driving along 18th Avenue. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the driver may have disregarded a red light before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of 64th Street.
Surveillance footage captured the moment of impact, which caused both vehicles to spin out of control, with one crashing onto the sidewalk and the other veering down the street. Debris from the wreck littered the pavement and sidewalk, as emergency responders scrambled to transport the injured victims to the hospital.
Despite their efforts, two individuals succumbed to their injuries at Maimonides Hospital. The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of their next of kin.
