Philadelphia police say dirt bike riders and a crowd outside the Rivers Casino surrounded and destroyed two of their vehicles early Sunday morning while officers were still inside, with a third police car in a previous similar incident in North Philadelphia was damaged.
The Rivers Casino incident began just after 2 a.m. when a patrolling police officer approached the casino on Delaware Avenue in Fishtown, where several dirt bike riders were parading donuts, police said.
The officer drove his vehicle to where a crowd had blocked entrances and exits to the parking lot. He began flashing the vehicle’s skylights and sounding the horn to disperse the crowd, police said.
Then an “aggressive crowd jumped onto the officer’s vehicle and pounded on his windows,” according to a police report.
Another police vehicle arrived to assist the first officer.
“The crowd then began pounding on this police vehicle and flattening its tires,” the report reads.
