A 40-year-old man died at a Weber County apartment complex after a standoff with police. Officers were originally called to the scene to respond to a man who had threatened to harm himself.
The shooting happened at the Orchard Cove Apartments at 1801 West 4650 South in Roy.
According to Sgt. Josh Taylor with the Roy Police Department, officers went to the apartment complex at 7:20 p.m. Friday after a call that a man with a gun threatened suicide.
Taylor said there were family members of the suicidal man in the apartment.
Officers spoke to the man for several hours. Nearby residents were evacuated.
Taylor said the situation led to shots fired by two officers - one by a Roy police officer and another by an officer with the Ogden Police Department, which was called in to assist. Officers from other jurisdictions also responded.
Details about what led officers to discharge their service weapons were not available.
Taylor did not know whether the deceased man fired at officers or whether he died inside the apartment.
No other injures reported during the incident. The man's identity was not released.
