Seattle Police Catch House Burglar Puffing Gasoline In The Garage, Then Chugging The Canister

Police bodycam video captured a scary and bizarre incident for a family in Seattle. A man is said to have broken into their home in broad daylight on Friday and started puffing gasoline.

Seattle police said officers reached the 8400 block of 5th Avenue Southwest around 11:30 a.m. after a man said his 17-year-old daughter told him someone was trying to break into their home with a wooden stick.

Police said when they got there, the daughter was too scared to open the door for officers. While they were still outside, police heard loud popping noises coming from the house. Fearing for the daughter’s safety, officers broke in the front door.

Officers said they found a man in the homeowner’s car in the garage and saw that he had a gas bottle and a hammer on his lap. When asked to get out of the car, the man began drinking gasoline from the can.

Officers said they ordered the man to leave, but he refused and continued to puff gasoline. Police broke the driver’s side window and removed the man from the car.

According to police, the man resisted officers as they pulled him out, but was eventually taken into custody. Seattle Fire provided assistance to the man.

Once the man was taken into custody, officers found the 17-year-old on the second floor of the house and took her to safety.

The 40-year-old man was arrested for alleged burglary and committed to King County Jail.
