A retired sergeant from the São Paulo Military Police was shot dead this Friday afternoon (8/9) after being attacked by criminals while sweeping the street in front of his house, in São Vicente, Baixada Santista. The PM's murder occurs four days after the São Paulo government put an end to Operation Shield which, in about a month, left 28 people dead.
According to the report, the São Paulo government's intelligence services are working on the possibility that the attack was a reprisal by organized crime in response to the deaths caused by Operation Shield launched by the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republican) administration.
Intercepted messages indicated that criminals promised a response after the reinforcement ended, but it was surprising how quickly it was given. PMs interviewed also believe in a new lethal police operation, as the image of Secretary Guilherme Derrite (Security) would be damaged.
