Authorities have identified a man fatally shot earlier this month by a Pima County deputy during a break-in call.
Reinaldo Carballo-Morales, 33, died Aug. 6 in Tucson from the gunfire of Deputy Delmar Castillo, a two-year member of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
About 11:15 p.m. that day, deputies responded to a home in the area of Roger and Flowing Wells roads about an ex-boyfriend trying to enter forcefully as a family member remained inside, according to the news release. Deputies entered the home after not receiving a response to their orders in English and Spanish for Carballo-Morales to exit, according to the news release.
Deputies found Carballo-Morales in a bedroom and realized he was armed with a knife, proceeding to order him to drop the weapon. Not complying with the order, Carballo-Morales advanced toward the deputies, prompting Castillo to shoot him, according to the news release.
Deputies rendered aid to Carballo-Morales, but he died at the scene. The family member inside the home was unharmed, the news release noted.
