India- A man, identified as Muthukumar, died due to burn injuries after falling into a pot of boiling oatmeal in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai on Friday, July 29. He was admitted to the hospital with 65% burn injuries but he died on Tuesday, August 2. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera.
‘Aadi Velli’ is an important festival celebrated across Tamil Nadu where oatmeal is cooked and distributed to the public in honor of Goddess Amman.
The victim, identified as Muthukumar, who was assisting in the preparation of the porridge, became dizzy and fell into the large vessel which contained boiling porridge.
Shocked, people nearby tried to help Muthukumar but they were unable to pull him out. Finally, they had to topple the entire vessel to rescue him.
Muthukumar was taken to Rajaji Government Hospital, where he was admitted with 65% burn injuries.
Muthukumar succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. Police, who were investigating the matter, retrieved the CCTV footage which showed the exact moment Muthukumar fell into boiling porridge.
