In a chilling incident in Hoai Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam, a 44-year-old woman, identified as Nguyen Thi B., suffered severe burns after her common-law partner, Bui Thanh An, 35 years old, doused him with gasoline and set him on fire. The attack, which shocked the community, took place on December 19 while the woman was resting in a hammock on the patio of her house.
Despite not being formally married, Mrs. B. and Mr. A. shared a life together and had two children. According to local witnesses, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a heated argument between the couple triggered the violent episode, Mr. A. threw a bottle of gasoline on her wife, setting her on fire while she lay in the hammock.
The victim, in a desperate act, managed to remove his burning pants and ran to a neighbor's house for help. She was quickly assisted by local residents and transferred to Bong Son Regional General Hospital for emergency medical care. Doctors confirmed that she had severe burns on her back, buttocks, legs, and hands.
Ms. B. was later transferred to Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital in Quy Nhon City to receive specialized burn treatment. Hoai Nhon City police authorities are coordinating with local authorities to investigate and clarify the case.
