A teenager was shot and killed near a bus stop and a convenience store in South Los Angeles on Monday.
The shooting happened in the 10800 block of Western Avenue near West 108th Street just before 4 p.m., according to the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
When they arrived, they found nearly 50 teens gathered and one boy suffering from a gunshot wound.
The teenage victim was taken to a hospital but died at the facility, the Sheriff's Department said.
"Unfortunately, you know, with these fights, we never know when somebody is armed. You know, during this these situations. I do believe that there is always school personnel out here. There is security. But unfortunately, with these fights, we never know," Lieutenant Omar Camacho, LA County Sheriff’s Homicide Detective, said.
Detectives say they detained two people at the scene, but did not confirm if they were also teens.
Video footage from the shooting scene showed the victim being taken into an ambulance while other teens wearing backpacks were standing around.
