A man is dead after being shot dozens of times in what police say was a targeted, execution-style killing in South Philadelphia on Wednesday.
It happened just after 7 p.m. on the 1500 block of Snyder Avenue.
At the scene, police say they found a 25-year-old Kaishef Johnson who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators believe Johnson was shot at least 40 times while he was riding his bike, and even while he was on the ground.
The incident was caught on camera by a local business and a SEPTA bus in the area, authorities say.
According to police, the video shows the victim riding down the street when three men wearing masks and gloves exit a burgundy Nissan and start shooting.
"This particular victim appears to have been targeted, shot execution-style," noted Chief Inspector Scott Small with Philadelphia police. "The shooters are seen on camera standing over the victim's body after he was shot, falls to the ground and they're still standing over him, shooting him multiple times."
Johnson reportedly lived only five blocks from where the shooting took place.
Authorities are now searching for the suspects who were last seen heading eastbound on Snyder Avenue.
The vehicle was found unattended around 11 p.m. Wednesday on the 2000 block of South Front Street.
Small told Action News he was surprised such a brazen crime took place in broad daylight.
"It's a beautiful summer night, weather is really nice. It was broad daylight at 7 p.m. We know there were multiple people out here, cause 15th and Synder, it's not only a residential neighborhood but there are multiple businesses that are still open," Small said.
Because the neighborhood is so lively, Small says he's thankful that no one else was injured.
"We know there is a lot of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. With 40 shots fired, we're very, very lucky there are no additional victims," he commented.
