Seattle judge releases man accused of fatally stabbing a 65-year-old veteran just 27 hours after his arrest.
The Renton Police Department said K’Shawn Konscience Jimerson, 19, called 911 and stated, "I stabbed someone" and told the operator he'd be “outside with the knife."
“The 911 caller said that they had stabbed the handyman inside the house,” Susan Hassinger of the Renton police said.
Michael Gray, 65, was hired by Jimerson’s grandmother to do maintenance work and had spent a day and a half cleaning the walls inside the apartment before his death.
Jimerson claimed self-defense in the call, according to police.
Witnesses heard arguing and saw Jimerson with a bloody butcher knife.
Police found Gray with stab wounds to his side and back, and a knife in a detergent-filled sink.
Gray died at the scene despite officers’ aid.
Judge Michelle Gehlsen set bail at $50,000 despite finding probable cause for second-degree murder.
Prosecutors had requested a $2 million bail. Police said Jimerson posted bail and has been released.
