BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A former Meridian Police Officer whose arrest of a young man is at the center of an investigation has transferred to the Boise Police Department.
A video of the arrest surfaced on YouTube, first reported by "The Civil Rights Lawyer" YouTube page. The video, primarily filmed by the brother of the young man who was arrested, shows the interaction in great detail.
The young men were in a neighborhood in Meridian to pick up their brother's dirt bike. He had crashed the bike while performing a wheelie and was transported to the hospital by EMS. The brothers, one of whom is identified as Samson Allen, had loaded the dirt bike into the back of their pickup truck and were preparing to take it home when Officer Chambers approached them.
Officer Chambers grabs Samson, placing both hands behind his back, then sweeps his legs out and tackles him to the ground. You can see the full video of the arrest here.Officer Chambers then pulls out his Taser and points it at the two brothers, telling them to "Get back."
Samson was arrested and charged with resisting and obstructing. Meridian Police Chief Basterechea has ordered the Officer of Professional Standards to "Conduct a thorough review of the incident from start to finish, including the use of force." Meridian Police then informed us that Officer Chambers had "Voluntarily left the Department for another opportunity in early September."
