ORLANDO - Two people are dead and at least seven others are injured after a shooting in downtown Orlando, Florida, early Friday as thousands enjoyed the city's Halloween celebrations, police said.
Police arrested a 17-year-old man on suspicion of carrying out the shooting. No motive has so far been established and the identities of those killed and injured have not been released, although police said the victims ranged in age from 18 to 39.
The two fatal victims were later identified as 19- and 25-year-olds. Six others suffered gunshot wounds, and a 26-year-old woman suffered injuries from being trampled as the crowd fled the shooting scene.
Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith told a news conference early Friday that shots were fired just after 1 a.m. at Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue with more shots fired nearby minutes later.
The wounded were taken to Orlando Medical Center for treatment. Police said all were in a stable condition.
Police said the suspect was arrested and taken into custody. He was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and six counts of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.
