A shooting took place in the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Jolly Fox parking lot, 2504 Sam Houston Avenue, resulting in “a Sam Houston State University non-traveling football squad student-athlete” life-flighted to Conroe with multiple gunshot wounds.
The call came in ten minutes before 2 a.m., according to Huntsville Police Department’s Lt. Wade Roberts.
“Officers responded to the call and found one victim with multiple gunshot wounds,” said Lt. Roberts. “Walker County EMS responded and requested a helicopter to transport the young man to a Conroe hospital.”
SHSU police responded to the scene to assist HPD.
“The victim (who has not been named at this time) is in critical but stable condition. There are no indications that the incident was premediated or planned shooting,” said Lt. Roberts.
Detectives with HPD have been investigating and gathering evidence since the incident occurred, however, no arrests have been made at this time.
The SHSU Athletic Department confirmed the victim was an athlete in a statement released Sunday afternoon. The Huntsville Police are the lead agency handling the ongoing investigation and will handle any further inquiries.
