Martha MacCallum grilled White House spokesperson John Kirby about the alleged drones recently spotted flying over New Jersey. During the contentious segment on Friday’s installment of The Story on Fox News, she asked if President Joe Biden has consulted “experts” such as Elon Musk.
For about a month, scores of people have reported seeing unidentified aircraft flying around the New Jersey sky at night. Flying drones in New Jersey is legal, provided the operator is certified with the Federal Aviation Administration.
“They’re flying over your house, and it sounds like motorcycles landing on your roof,” MacCallum told Kirby. “So, let me ask you this. One person that watched this online said they think it’s a PteroDynamics trans-wing drone, XP-4, which is being developed by the U.S. Navy as a recon and logistics drone capable of picking up and dropping off packages between land and moving ships in high seas and winds.”
She then asked Kirby if the federal government would down one of the vehicles to ascertain any clues about their origin.
“First of all, we don’t have enough conclusions to take that kind of a policy action,” he replied. “But let’s just assume for a minute, Martha, that we did. You’re not gonna wanna shoot something down where it could hit somebody’s house or hurt someone.”
“Well, the Coast Guard says that there are 30 of them following one of their ships in the ocean,” MacCallum shot back. “So, would that work?”
“Again, we have to develop the policy options based on what we know we are dealing with here,” Kirby responded. “And we just don’t know enough to take those kinds of actions.”
