KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A video of a KCPD officer arresting a man using a chokehold while he screams, “I can’t breathe,” has been viewed more than 100,000 times.
The incident occurred Wednesday, March 12, at Sun Fresh on 31st and Prospect. Thursday, many are calling this an example of excessive force by the officer, but KCPD says the video doesn’t tell the full story.
Police say the man arrested came into the store with a gun and was told he could not have the firearm in the store. In the video from a second encounter, however, the man can be heard saying he left the gun in the car.
