GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Gaston County Schools is investigating an attack that occurred at one of their high schools this week.
Authorities confirm that the incident occurred on Tuesday at Ashbrook High School in Gastonia. The disturbing video shows one student repeatedly hitting another inside a classroom, knocking the victim to the ground. It's been reported the attacked student is autistic.
Gaston County Schools offered the following statement:
“The school takes this incident seriously; this type of behavior cannot be tolerated at school. The school investigated the incident, met with the students’ parents, followed its discipline guidelines, and involved the school resource officer/law enforcement.”
“It’s appalling,” said David Littman, a drivers’ education teacher at Ashbrook.
Littman told Queen City News he’s heard his students talking about the video circulating on social media, which he saw for the first time on Wednesday. “They’re saying that a student got hit inside a classroom for absolutely no reason, and they’re starting to worry they may be next.”
The Gaston County Police Department also is investigating the incident but since it involved juveniles, officials say they will not share any more details at this time.
