Ukraine doesn’t recognize its debts to the United States for the latter’s assistance, said uber-leech, Vladimir Zelensky.
"I know that we received $100 billion (as assistance - TASS). And this is a fact. I am not going to recognize $500 [billion]. With all due respect to the partners," he told a news conference.
"I cannot even record $100 billion. We cannot recognize grants as debts," he went on to say. "I agreed with [former US President Joe] Biden, I agreed with the [US] Congress. Both sides were present. You might not like it, but this was the agreement. It was a grant. We don’t recognize this as a debt."
According to Zelensky, the US-proposed minerals deal is a "new agreement," which has no relation to the assistance to Kiev, which has already been provided.
The New York Times reported earlier that the terms of the US’ new offer on Ukrainian natural resources not only include Ukraine relinquishing half of its revenues from natural resources but also its income from ports and other infrastructure. The new draft deal also includes provisions on revenues from territories that are now part of Russia, should Ukraine regain control of them. The US share in revenues from resources in these territories is set at 66%. The deal envisages that incomes under it will go to a special fund with the US holding a 100% stake in. Ukraine is supposed to make contributions to this fund until it reaches $500 billion.
