A video of Mansfield Police arresting a 26-year-old man Wednesday around 3:30 a.m. on a front porch in the 100 block of Blymyer Avenue is garnering attention on social media.
The 2:46 video shows police approach a man smoking on a porch and then arrest him.
"The incident is going through our Use of Force review, as all do," Mansfield Police Chief Jason Bammann said. "I have nothing else to release at this time."
In a Mansfield Police Department Facebook post Thursday afternoon, Bammann said, "We are aware of a video currently circulating online that shows Mansfield police officers arresting an individual on a residential porch.
"We understand that the video may raise concerns. However, it is important to recognize that the circulating clip reflects only a short portion of a larger incident. As with all incidents involving use of force, a full and through review is already underway. Our review includes all available evidence ― this includes the full body-worn camera footage, officer reports and witness statements ― to ensure a complete and accurate understanding of what occurred."
The police chief asked for the public's patience.
"Officers contacted a subject in reference to suspicious behavior which resulted in the subject being placed under arrest," the Mansfield police report said.
According to the police report, the 26-year-old man is charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest. It also noted the man had an unspecified warrant from another law enforcement agency.
The video, believed to be from a doorbell camera at the residence, shows the man standing on a porch when police arrive and tell the man to step off the porch. He refuses. Officers then come onto the porch and arrest him as a physical confrontation ensues.
