Almost 300 people were arrested after skirmishes in Paris as French riot police deployed tear gas and baton-charged supporters during the Champions League final.
Thousands of mostly Arab supporters gathered in the French capital to watch Paris St-Germain face Inter Milan in Munich, both on a beam-back at the Parc des Princes and around the city, but it descended into scenes that prompted Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau to say “barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris”.
Despite appeals by PSG and its players to celebrate calmly, the festivities were soured after violent clashes and fires broke out around the city.
