LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/Gray News) - A Kentucky mother is being charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking her 6-year-old daughter with a hammer and leaving her in critical condition.
Louisville police say they were called at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday to the Park Duvalle neighborhood.
Officers at the scene said they found a 6-year-old girl with several blunt force injuries to her head.
The child was taken to Norton Children’s Hospital and remained in critical condition.
The girl’s mother, 40-year-old Zeinab Abdi, told police her child “frequently becomes extremely angry and has difficulty controlling herself,” the arrest report stated.
Officers said Abdi also told them that she became overly angry and struck her daughter in the head with a hammer an unknown number of times.
The suspect’s son told police that while he was restraining his mother after the incident, she told him, “Let me finish her,” while trying to get back at her daughter.
