An 8-meter python swallowed a 61-year-old man in Indonesia.
A tragic scene shook the town of Majapahit, Batauga District, South Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, on Saturday, July 5. A 61-year-old man was found dead after being devoured by a python approximately eight meters long.
The victim, identified as La Noti, had been reported missing after going out Friday morning to feed his chickens in his garden. According to Buton Police Public Relations Chief AKP Suwoto, the family became concerned when they had no news of him until noon on Saturday, so neighbors began a search on their own.
“The last time he was seen was on Friday at 7:00 a.m. local time. By Saturday at 2:00 p.m., he had still not returned, so family members and neighbors decided to go to the orchard to look for him,” Suwoto explained. Around 3:40 p.m., neighbors found a giant python with a suspicious bulge in its stomach, about 20 meters from the victim's land.
Suspecting the reptile had swallowed the man, they captured and euthanized it. When they cut the animal open, they confirmed their fears: La Noti's body was inside. The body was recovered around 4:40 p.m. and taken to his home in an ambulance.
It was scheduled to be buried that same night. The incident shocked the community and served as a reminder of the danger posed by wildlife in rural areas.
