Chinese EV, Xiaomi Under Fire After This One Crashed, Caught On Fire And Doors Would Not Unlock, Burning The Driver To Death
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is under scrutiny after reports that the doors of its SU7 electric sedan in Chengdu, China, did not open after a crash, leaving the driver dead. The deadly crash has raised concerns about whether smart car technology, including electronic doors and other systems, works properly in emergencies.
According to a Bloomberg report, the Xiaomi SU7 caught fire after a crash and bystanders were unable to open the doors due to the car’s electronic locking system. The driver, trapped inside, did not survive as the vehicle burst into flames.
Chengdu police said the crash may have been caused by drunk driving, but experts and users are concerned that the car’s technology may have prevented a rescue. The SU7’s flush door handles rely on electronic systems, which can fail or stop working in extreme situations like crashes or fires.
