BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Garrard County man has retained an attorney after receiving eight charges from a traffic stop.
Attorney Ephraim Helton says his client was arrested by a Kentucky State Police trooper using excessive force following a traffic stop.
The arrest citation says Helton’s client, Devin Langsdorf, was driving 86 mph in a 55 mph zone.
His eight charges include speeding 26 mph or greater over the speed limit, reckless driving, failure to produce an insurance card, failure of the owner to maintain required insurance, first offense, disorderly conduct 2nd degree, resisting arrest, no registration receipt and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Helton says his client admits to speeding but denies the other seven charges.
“Because you’re speeding doesn’t justify being kicked repeatedly in the ribs, it doesn’t justify being hit in the back,” Helton said.
Langsdorf’s three-year-old daughter was in the backseat of the car at the time of the traffic stop.
“You can hear the screams. He had a three-year-old child in the car. He can’t sleep now, he has nightmares, and he has night sweats. His daughter is afraid of law enforcement now,” Helton said.
Helton says he wants the trooper to be held accountable and for incidents like this not to be normalized for law enforcement.
“If you can’t control yourself when you’re pulling someone over just for speeding, then what are you going to do in a real critical situation?” Helton said.
