A SEPTA bus in Philadelphia turned into a rolling flashpoint this week after video surfaced showing a young activist losing control — and turning on journalists — in a confrontation that quickly went from shouting to physical violence.
The footage, now circulating widely online, shows Paulina Reyes, identified in posts as a WHYY News intern and a Community College of Philadelphia student involved in social justice activism, allegedly assaulting journalist Frank Scales and another colleague while riding a city bus. What begins as verbal hostility escalates fast: punches thrown, pepper spray deployed, and passengers caught in the middle of a scene that looks more like street-level chaos than civic engagement.
According to accounts accompanying the video, the clash erupted after a dispute involving political views and media coverage. Reyes is seen aggressively confronting the journalists before physically attacking them, at one point spraying pepper spray in the enclosed space of the bus — a move that endangered not just the targets, but everyone onboard.
