San Francisco police carried out a sweeping crackdown on a large group of disruptive cyclists, trapping dozens on a freeway offramp after they allegedly took over city streets and created dangerous conditions for drivers.
Officers with the San Francisco Police Department, working alongside the California Highway Patrol, moved in on approximately 85 riders accused of swerving through traffic, riding against the flow of cars, and blocking busy roadways.
The group was ultimately funneled onto an offramp in San Francisco, where police executed a coordinated stop that quickly left the cyclists with nowhere to go.
Video from the scene shows the moment the group realized they were boxed in. Several riders attempted to turn around after spotting police vehicles ahead, only to find officers closing off the rear exit as well.
Within seconds, it became clear they were trapped.
Authorities then moved in and confiscated every bicycle involved, bringing the chaotic scene to an abrupt end and sending a strong message about enforcement.
The incident comes amid growing frustration over large, loosely organized cycling groups that have increasingly taken over major streets in cities across the country, often ignoring traffic laws and disrupting normal traffic flow.
Critics say these groups pose serious risks to public safety, citing reckless riding, blocked intersections, and near misses with vehicles.
Supporters of the police response praised the operation as long overdue, arguing that law enforcement is finally taking decisive action to restore order on crowded urban roads.
