A defenceless kitten was brutally tortured by two teenage girls who hurled it against the wall.

In horrifying footage, posted to Instagram, the two thugs repeatedly throw the tiny kitten against a wall and kick it during the attack in an abandoned building.

The terrified animal desperately tries to flee but the girls catch it each time and continue their torture.

One of the teenagers even gets her seven-year-old sister to join in the gruesome abuse and even praises her when she hurls it against the wall and kicks it.

At one point in the sickening clip, the girls seem to think they have killed the kitten as it lies on the ground motionless and with blood pouring from its mouth.

Amazingly, the cat survived and was treated by vets for serious head injuries and a broken leg.

It is now receiving round-the-clock care.

The injured kitten was found by other children who saw the appalling broadcast on Instagram and rushed to the abandoned building in Kinel, Samara region, in Russia,

Locals reported it to police who are speaking to the young girl and her mother.

The identity of the other teenager involved in the case is not known.

The young girl's mum said: "I am shocked with this horror, like everyone else.

"Do you think it is easy for me now to stay at work when I am appalled with what my daughter had done?

"I do not approve of what she inflicted on the kitten but I will protect her. She is my child, it could have happened to anyone."

The girls involved have a family cat and the youngest girl is said to "love it and takes care of it".

Her mum said: "I cannot understand where such cruelty comes from. We have been called to report to the police."

The family were also fostering another cat called Judy - and an animal shelter has removed it.
