Distressing footage has emerged of a 12-year-old girl jumping off the roof of a building to escape a beating from her father.
The video shot on a mobile phone begins with the girl cowering on the ground as her dad slaps her across the back of the head with a shoe.
The hard hit can be heard as the girl appears to cry in pain.
But as her father turns his back, the girl gets up off the ground and runs toward the edge of the roof.
Without hesitating she jumps from the building in a bid to save herself from the beating as another girl who is also on the terrace screams and runs to the edge.
As the camera peers over the side, the girl can be seen lying motionless on the ground.
Several people then rush to help her.
The incident took place in Alwar, in Rajasthan, India and it is believed to be filmed by a neighbour.
It is thought her father became angry after she was speaking on the phone on the terrace.
The girl who was left unconscious from the fall was taken to hospital and she remains in a critical condition.
