‘Super-sized’ mice that are 50% bigger than average have taken over a remote island - and they’re causing havoc for seabirds.

The enormous mice have colonised Gough Island in British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic, having accidentally been introduced there in the 19th century.

Despite weighing just 30g, the mice have taken to feasting on the eggs and chicks of many of the island’s seabirds - which can weight up to 10kg.

Now, a new study by the RSPB has revealed the mice cause a loss of two million chicks and eggs on Gough Island every year.
