Tonight, Tamir and Elad, two IDF reservists on our Israeli Soldiers' Stories Tour, spoke to students at Rice University to share their experiences in the IDF and answer questions from students representing diverse political views. Sadly, while Elad was describing the diversity of the IDF, half the students at the event staged a "walk-out" in protest of the IDF. Instead of engaging in dialogue and explaining their views to the soldiers and their fellow students, they shut down debate and discussion. Peace requires both sides to participate in the classroom and outside as well. How can peace be achieved when one side refuses to participate?
