According to ClickonDetroit, “police were called to Smith’s home for reports of shots fired” around 1 a.m. Sources say Smith allegedly “fired several shots into the woman’s car.” Police said the ex-wife told them “multiple shots were fired in front of the home at Wexford and Hilldale.” She was not shot but “her 2015 Mercedes Benz was struck by gunfire.” On Monday, MyFoxDetroit reported that Smith is “facing aggravated assault and malicious destruction of property charges.” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said no further comment on the incident would be made as the investigation continues. According to Michigan Votes, in February Smith opposed Senate Bill 34 — legislation intended to speed up the process by which law-abiding citizens could acquire a concealed carry permit for self-defense.
